Summer Hydration Guide for Little Ones

Keep your baby cool and hydrated during India's scorching summer months

As temperatures soar across India this April, keeping our little ones properly hydrated becomes our top priority. Babies and toddlers are more vulnerable to dehydration and heat-related illnesses, so here's your summer survival guide.

For babies under 6 months, breast milk or formula provides all the hydration they need - no extra water required! For older babies, offer small sips of cooled boiled water between feeds. Toddlers should get water every 20-30 minutes, even if they don't ask for it.

Include hydrating Indian foods in their diet: watermelon, cucumber, coconut water (for 12+ months), buttermilk, and fresh fruit juices diluted with water. Avoid sugary drinks and too much citrus which can cause stomach upset in the heat.

Watch for signs of dehydration: fewer wet diapers, dry mouth, lethargy, or irritability. Keep them in cool, shaded areas during peak sun hours (10 AM - 4 PM) and dress them in light, breathable cotton clothes.

Remember, prevention is always better than cure. A well-hydrated child is a happy, healthy child who can better enjoy these summer months safely.
