Slippery Floors? Keep Your Little One Safe
Monsoon makes bathrooms extra slippery—here's how to prevent falls and injuries
During monsoon, our bathrooms become danger zones for toddlers. The increased humidity and wet floors make surfaces incredibly slippery, and little ones learning to walk or run are especially vulnerable to falls.
Start with anti-slip solutions: Use rubber bath mats both inside and outside the bathing area. Apply anti-skid stickers on tiles near the tap and shower. Keep a dry towel just outside the bathroom door to wipe feet immediately. Consider switching to closed-toe bathroom slippers for your child instead of open chappals.
Create safe bathing routines: Never leave your child unattended, even for a second. Keep bath time toys organized in a mesh bag to prevent tripping hazards. Ensure adequate lighting—many Indian bathrooms are dimly lit, making it harder for children to navigate. Install a small nightlight if your child uses the bathroom at night.
Dos and Don'ts: DO keep floors dry by wiping them after each use. DO teach your child to walk slowly in the bathroom. DON'T allow running or jumping. DON'T let water accumulate on floors. If there's a bathroom threshold or step, mark it with bright tape so your toddler can see it clearly. Remember, most bathroom injuries happen in seconds—prevention is always better than a trip to the emergency room.
