Safe Home Remedies for Your Child's Cold & Cough
Gentle, effective remedies to soothe your little one during monsoon sniffles
The monsoon brings inevitable sniffles and coughs for our little ones. While most colds are viral and resolve on their own, here are safe home remedies to keep your child comfortable.
For babies under 6 months, breast milk is the best medicine—it boosts immunity and keeps them hydrated. For older babies and toddlers, warm liquids work wonders. Try ajwain water (carom seed water) or tulsi-honey tea (only for children above 1 year). A pinch of turmeric in warm milk at bedtime has natural anti-inflammatory properties.
Steam inhalation helps clear blocked noses—sit with your child in a steamy bathroom for 10 minutes, or use a bowl of hot water with ajwain seeds (never leave child unattended). Elevate your baby's head slightly during sleep using a folded towel under the mattress to ease breathing. Gentle chest rubs with coconut oil mixed with a tiny bit of camphor can provide relief for children above 2 years.
Remember: avoid honey for babies under 1 year, never give adult cough syrups, and consult your pediatrician if fever persists beyond 3 days, breathing becomes difficult, or your child refuses to feed. Most importantly, keep your child well-hydrated and let them rest—their body is working hard to heal.
