Protecting Your Little One from Monsoon Mosquitoes

Keep dengue, malaria & chikungunya away with smart mosquito protection

With monsoon rains comes the breeding season for mosquitoes, bringing serious risks like dengue, malaria, and chikungunya for your little ones. Babies and toddlers are especially vulnerable due to their developing immunity.

**Safe Protection for Young Children:** For babies under 2 months, rely on physical barriers—use mosquito nets over cribs and strollers with fine mesh. For older babies, pediatrician-approved mosquito repellents containing natural ingredients like citronella or neem are safer than chemical DEET-based products. Apply sparingly on exposed skin, avoiding hands and face.

**Home Safety Measures:** Empty all water containers, plant pots, and coolers weekly. Mosquitoes breed in even small amounts of stagnant water. Use mesh screens on windows and doors. Run fans during the day—mosquitoes are weak fliers. Consider mosquito-repellent patches on clothes rather than direct skin application for sensitive babies.

**Dress Smart:** During dawn and dusk peak mosquito hours, dress your child in light-colored, loose, full-sleeved cotton clothes. This keeps them comfortable in humid weather while providing protection.

**Watch for Warning Signs:** If your child develops sudden high fever, rash, or becomes unusually irritable during monsoon, consult your pediatrician immediately. Early detection makes all the difference.
