Protecting Little Feet This Monsoon
Prevent fungal infections & keep your child's feet healthy during rainy season
The monsoon brings puddles that toddlers love splashing through, but wet feet can lead to serious problems. Fungal infections, athlete's foot, and skin maceration are common when little feet stay damp for long periods.
Choose breathable footwear like open-toed sandals with good grip for indoor and protected outdoor play. Avoid keeping children in closed shoes or gumboots for extended periods as trapped moisture creates a perfect environment for fungal growth. After coming home from outside, always wash your child's feet with soap and water, then dry them completely—especially between the toes.
Apply a thin layer of antifungal powder or regular talcum powder if your child's feet tend to sweat. Keep two pairs of footwear in rotation so each pair gets time to dry completely. Check between toes daily for any white patches, redness, or peeling skin—early signs of fungal infection.
For babies who aren't walking yet, ensure socks are changed frequently if they get damp, and let them have barefoot time on clean, dry surfaces at home. If you notice any persistent rashes, foul odor, or your child complaining of itching, consult your pediatrician promptly. Prevention is always easier than treating stubborn monsoon foot infections!
