Protect Your Little One's Feet This Summer!
Hot floors and sandals can harm tiny feet — here's what to do.
In Indian summers, the floor tiles, terrace surfaces, and even sand can heat up to dangerous temperatures that can burn or blister your baby's soft, delicate feet. Children under 5 cannot always tell you when something is too hot, so as a parent, you need to stay one step ahead.
Always check the floor temperature with your own hand or foot before letting your toddler walk barefoot — especially near windows, balconies, or areas hit by direct sunlight. Marble and mosaic floors can get surprisingly hot by midday. Keep your child in light cotton socks indoors during peak afternoon hours (12 PM to 4 PM).
When going outside, choose well-fitting, breathable sandals — avoid rubber or plastic footwear that traps heat and causes sweating, leading to fungal infections between tiny toes. Wash and dry your child's feet thoroughly every evening, especially between the toes. You can apply a thin layer of coconut oil or a mild moisturizer to prevent dryness and cracking.
Watch for signs like redness, blisters, peeling skin, or your child refusing to walk or crying when they step down — these need a doctor's attention. A little daily care goes a long way in keeping those precious little feet happy and healthy all summer long!
