Protect Your Child's Tiny Feet This Summer!
Hot floors and sandals can harm little feet — here's what to watch for.
In the peak of Indian summer, the floors of your home — marble, tiles, or even the terrace — can get scorching hot, especially between 11 AM and 4 PM. For babies and toddlers who love to crawl or walk barefoot, this can quickly lead to burns, blisters, or painful redness on their delicate soles. Always check the floor temperature with your own palm before letting your little one walk on it.
Outdoor footwear matters just as much. Avoid rubber or plastic chappals that trap heat and sweat, causing fungal infections or painful rashes between tiny toes. Choose breathable, soft cotton-lined sandals that fit well — not too tight, not too loose. Many Indian parents prefer lightweight Kolhapuri-style or mesh sandals for toddlers, which are excellent choices in summer.
After every outing, wash your child's feet with cool water and gently dry between the toes. Look out for signs of foot fungus — itching, peeling skin, or a sour smell. A light dusting of plain talc-free baby powder can help keep feet dry indoors.
For babies who are not yet walking, keep their feet covered with soft cotton socks when indoors on warm floors. Never leave a baby on a hot terrace or balcony floor, even briefly. Small feet are sensitive and heal more slowly than adult skin.
Remember: healthy feet support your child's walking development. A little daily attention goes a long way this summer! 🌞
