Protect Your Child's Teeth This Summer!
Summer habits can silently harm your little one's tiny teeth.
Summer in India means more sugary drinks, ice creams, aamras, and chilled juices — and while these treats cool your child down, they can quietly damage their developing teeth. For babies and toddlers between 0–5 years, dental hygiene in summer deserves special attention from parents.
The biggest culprit this season is frequent sipping of sweet drinks like packaged juices, nimbu pani with extra sugar, or flavoured milk. When sugar sits on tiny teeth for long periods, it feeds bacteria that cause cavities — even in milk teeth. Remember, milk teeth matter! They hold space for permanent teeth and affect your child's speech and eating habits.
Here's what you can do: Offer plain water between meals to rinse the mouth naturally. After giving juices or sweet drinks, wipe your baby's gums and teeth with a clean, damp cloth. For toddlers above 2 years, brush twice daily with a tiny smear of fluoride toothpaste (rice grain size). Avoid putting your child to sleep with a bottle of milk or juice — this is a very common cause of 'bottle caries' seen in Indian toddlers.
Also, this is a great time to visit a paediatric dentist if your child is 1 year or older and hasn't had a dental check-up yet. Early visits remove fear and catch problems before they grow. Healthy teeth = happy meals = happy child!
