Protect Your Baby's Skin This Summer!
Beat heat rashes and dryness with these simple summer skin tips.
Summers in India can be brutal on your little one's delicate skin. With temperatures soaring, babies and toddlers are very prone to heat rashes (ghamori), sunburn, and excessive dryness. But a few simple habits can keep their skin happy and healthy all season long.
Heat rash is the most common summer skin problem in children under 5. It appears as tiny red bumps — usually on the neck, back, and chest. The best remedy? Keep the skin cool and dry. Dress your child in loose, soft cotton clothes. Avoid synthetic fabrics completely during summer. A light dusting of plain baby powder (without talc for infants under 1 year) on skin folds can help reduce moisture buildup.
Bathe your baby once or twice daily with lukewarm — not cold — water. Cold water can actually cause a shock to their system. Use a mild, fragrance-free baby soap or just plain water for newborns. After the bath, gently pat skin dry — never rub — and apply a light, water-based moisturizer if the skin feels dry.
Avoid taking babies outside between 11 AM and 4 PM when the sun is harshest. If you must step out, cover their skin with light cotton clothing and a wide-brimmed hat. For children above 6 months, a mineral-based sunscreen (SPF 30+) can be applied on exposed areas.
If you notice blisters, pus, or your child is unusually cranky due to skin discomfort, please consult your pediatrician promptly. Your baby's skin is their first line of defense — protect it with love and care! 💚
