Protect Little Ears This Summer!

Swimming & sweating can trigger ear infections in young kids.

Summer in India brings a rise in ear infections among babies and toddlers — and most parents don't even see it coming. Whether it's a splash in the building swimming pool, a water tub at home, or simply excessive sweating around the ears, moisture trapped inside tiny ear canals can quickly lead to painful infections.

Watch for these warning signs: your child pulling or tugging at their ear, crying more than usual, fever, fussiness, or not responding normally to sounds. Babies who cannot speak will often shake their head or become irritable during feeding. These are all signs worth taking seriously.

Do's: After bathing or swimming, gently tilt your child's head side to side to help water drain naturally. Pat the outer ear dry with a soft cotton cloth. Keep your child's hair dry around the ears, especially at nap time.

Don'ts: Never insert cotton buds (Q-tips) inside a child's ear — this pushes wax deeper and can damage delicate ear tissue. Avoid pouring oil or any home remedy inside the ear without a doctor's advice. Do not let babies sleep on a wet pillow.

If you suspect an ear infection, please visit your pediatrician promptly. Untreated ear infections in young children can occasionally affect hearing and speech development. A little awareness this summer can save your child a lot of pain!
