Preventing Diaper Rash in Humid Monsoon Weather
Extra humidity makes diaper rash worse - here's how to keep baby's skin happy
During monsoon, the humidity makes diaper rash a common problem for Indian babies. The combination of moisture in the air, increased sweating, and wet diapers creates the perfect environment for skin irritation and fungal infections.
Change diapers more frequently during monsoon - every 2-3 hours, even if they don't seem very wet. After every diaper change, clean the area gently with lukewarm water and pat completely dry with a soft cotton cloth. Avoid using too many wipes as they can leave moisture behind. Give your baby 'diaper-free time' 2-3 times daily - let them lie on a waterproof mat without a diaper for 15-20 minutes so the skin can breathe.
Apply a thin layer of zinc oxide cream or coconut oil as a barrier before putting on a fresh diaper. During monsoon, avoid thick diaper creams that trap moisture. Choose breathable cloth diapers when possible, or use high-quality disposables that wick moisture away. If you notice persistent redness, small bumps, or your baby seems uncomfortable, consult your pediatrician - it might need antifungal treatment.
Remember, prevention is easier than treatment. Keep the diaper area as dry as possible, and your little one will stay comfortable despite the humid weather!
