Monsoon Bonding Time for Speech Milestones
Use rainy days indoors to boost your toddler's speech and language skills
The monsoon season keeping you indoors? This is actually a wonderful opportunity to focus on your little one's speech development! With more time at home, you can engage in meaningful conversations that build language skills naturally.
Start with simple narration throughout the day. While cooking dal-chawal, describe what you're doing: "Mumma is stirring hot dal." When watching the rain together, use descriptive words: "Look, heavy rain! Hear the dhad-dhad sound?" This constant exposure to language is like planting seeds that will bloom into words.
Make the most of indoor time with songs and rhymes. Traditional Hindi and regional nursery rhymes like "Aaj Mangalwar Hai" or "Machli Jal Ki Rani" are perfect. Repeat them often – repetition is key! Reading picture books together, especially with animal sounds and actions, encourages imitation. Don't worry if your child isn't speaking yet; receptive language (understanding) develops before expressive language (speaking).
Avoid excessive screen time, even educational videos. Real conversations are irreplaceable. If your 2-year-old isn't saying at least 50 words or your 3-year-old isn't forming short sentences, consult your pediatrician. Early intervention makes a significant difference. This monsoon, let your voice be the best toy your child has!
