Keeping Your Toddler's Food Safe This Monsoon

Essential food safety tips to prevent tummy troubles during the rainy season

The monsoon brings joy but also increases the risk of food contamination and stomach infections in young children. High humidity speeds up bacterial growth, making food safety crucial for your little one's health.

**Smart Storage Practices:** Store all cooked food in airtight containers and refrigerate within 2 hours. Avoid leaving dal, rice, or khichdi at room temperature. Check your fridge temperature—it should be below 5°C. Wash all fruits and vegetables with clean water, especially leafy greens like palak and methi that trap mud.

**What to Avoid:** Skip cut fruits from outside vendors, street food, and raw salads during monsoon. Avoid giving leftover food that's been stored for more than 24 hours. Say no to ice golas and unfiltered water. Don't serve undercooked eggs or partially cooked meat.

**Safe Eating Habits:** Always boil drinking water or use a reliable filter. Serve freshly prepared meals when possible. Wash your hands and your child's hands before every meal. Use separate cutting boards for vegetables and non-veg items. When traveling, carry homemade snacks like khakhra, dry poha, or banana instead of buying outside food.

Remember, most monsoon tummy troubles are preventable with simple hygiene. If your child shows signs of food poisoning—vomiting, diarrhea, or fever—consult your pediatrician immediately.
