Keeping Your Little Ones Safe This Diwali

Essential safety tips to protect babies and toddlers during Diwali festivities

With Diwali just around the corner, it's time to prepare for safe celebrations with your little ones. While the festival brings joy and lights, it also requires extra caution when you have babies and toddlers at home.

**Fire and Burn Safety:** Keep diyas and candles on high surfaces, completely out of reach. Never leave lit diyas unattended in rooms where children play. Consider using electric diyas in low areas. Always keep a bucket of water or sand nearby. Dress children in fitted cotton clothes, avoiding synthetic fabrics that catch fire easily.

**Firecracker Precautions:** For children under 5, it's best to avoid firecrackers altogether. Their developing lungs are sensitive to smoke and pollutants. If your family bursts crackers, keep babies indoors with windows closed. Use air purifiers if possible. The loud noise can be frightening and harmful to tiny eardrums—consider noise-canceling headphones for toddlers if needed.

**Food Safety:** Rich Diwali sweets can upset little tummies. Introduce mithai gradually and in small portions. Watch for choking hazards like nuts in barfis and laddoos. Stick to homemade sweets where you control ingredients and sugar levels.

**Sleep Routine:** Late-night celebrations can disrupt sleep schedules. Try to maintain nap times and create a calm environment for bedtime despite the festivities. Remember, a well-rested child is a happy child! Wishing you a safe and joyous Diwali!
