Keeping Tiny Feet Happy & Healthy This Monsoon
Essential footwear tips to prevent infections in your little one's delicate feet
During monsoon, our little ones' feet are constantly exposed to wet surfaces, puddles, and damp floors. This can lead to fungal infections, maceration (skin softening), and bacterial problems if we don't pay attention to footwear hygiene.
**Smart Footwear Choices:** Choose open sandals or jelly shoes that dry quickly over closed shoes for toddlers. For babies who are crawling or just learning to walk, keep indoor areas dry and let them go barefoot at home. Avoid keeping them in wet socks or shoes for extended periods. Always carry an extra pair of socks when going out.
**Daily Foot Care Routine:** After coming home, wash your child's feet with mild soap and water, then dry thoroughly between the toes—this is crucial! Moisture trapped between toes is a breeding ground for fungal infections. Apply a light dusting of antifungal powder if feet tend to sweat. For babies, check between toe folds during diaper changes as moisture can accumulate there too.
**Shoe Maintenance:** Wash footwear regularly and sun-dry completely before reuse. Keep at least two pairs rotating so one can dry thoroughly. Never store damp shoes in closed cupboards. If your child complains of itching, redness, or you notice white patches between toes, consult your pediatrician promptly—early treatment prevents complications.
