Keeping Little Feet Healthy This Monsoon
Wet shoes and damp feet can cause infections - here's how to protect them
During monsoon, your child's feet need special attention. Constantly wet shoes and damp socks create the perfect environment for fungal infections, skin maceration, and bacterial growth between tiny toes.
Start by having at least two pairs of shoes for your little one - while one dries completely, they can wear the other. Never let children wear damp shoes from the previous day. After coming home from outside, wash their feet with clean water and dry thoroughly, especially between the toes. Apply a light dusting of antifungal powder if feet tend to stay sweaty.
For babies and crawlers, keep indoor floors dry and clean. Avoid plastic or non-breathable footwear during monsoon - canvas or mesh shoes dry faster. If your child's feet get wet in the rain, change socks immediately. Check daily for any redness, peeling skin, or white patches between toes - early signs of fungal infection.
For toddlers who love jumping in puddles, carry an extra pair of socks when going out. At home, let them go barefoot on clean, dry surfaces - this allows feet to breathe and prevents moisture buildup. Trim toenails regularly to prevent ingrown nails, which become more common when feet are frequently wet. Remember, healthy feet mean a happy, active child!
