Keeping Little Feet Healthy This Monsoon
Wet shoes and muddy puddles? Here's how to protect your child's feet
Monsoon brings joy to little ones who love splashing in puddles, but constantly wet feet can lead to fungal infections, maceration, and skin problems. Here's how to keep those tiny toes healthy!
**The Right Footwear:** Choose quick-drying sandals or rubber shoes for outdoor play. Avoid fabric shoes that stay damp for hours. At home, let children go barefoot on dry, clean surfaces to allow feet to breathe. Keep at least two pairs of monsoon footwear so one can dry completely while the other is in use.
**Daily Foot Care:** After coming indoors, wash your child's feet with clean water and mild soap. Dry thoroughly, especially between the toes where moisture gets trapped. Apply a light dusting of antifungal powder if feet tend to sweat. Check for any cuts, redness, or white patches that might indicate infection.
**Important Don'ts:** Never let children wear damp socks or shoes—this creates a perfect environment for fungus. Avoid plastic shoes for prolonged wear as they don't allow ventilation. Don't ignore persistent itching, peeling, or foul odor from feet.
If you notice any signs of infection like redness, cracking between toes, or persistent itching, consult your pediatrician. Prevention is simple: keep feet clean, dry, and happy!
