Keeping Little Feet Happy This Monsoon

Wet shoes and damp feet can cause infections. Here's how to protect them.

Monsoon brings puddles and splashes that toddlers can't resist! But wet feet sitting in damp shoes for hours can lead to fungal infections, maceration, and bad odors.

**Smart Shoe Choices:** Keep at least two pairs of monsoon-friendly footwear. Choose shoes with drainage holes or open sandals that dry quickly. Avoid closed shoes that trap moisture. Crocs-style footwear works wonderfully for Indian monsoons. For babies who aren't walking yet, keep feet bare indoors and use soft, breathable socks outdoors.

**Foot Hygiene Routine:** After coming home, wash your child's feet with lukewarm water and mild soap. Dry thoroughly, especially between toes—this is where fungal infections start! Apply a light dusting of antifungal powder if feet tend to sweat. Trim nails regularly to prevent dirt accumulation.

**Dos and Don'ts:** Do carry an extra pair of socks when stepping out. Do air-dry wet shoes completely before next use—stuff newspaper inside to speed drying. Don't let children wear the same wet shoes next day. Don't ignore redness, itching, or peeling skin between toes—consult your pediatrician promptly.

Healthy feet mean happy playtime, even in the rains!
