Keeping Baby Clothes Fresh This Monsoon
Essential tips to prevent fungal infections from damp clothes during rainy season
During monsoon, drying baby clothes becomes a challenge for every Indian parent. Damp clothes can harbor fungus and bacteria, leading to skin rashes, itching, and infections in your little one's delicate skin.
The key is to ensure clothes are completely dry before storing. Use an iron on cotton clothes even if they feel dry – the heat kills any lurking fungus spores. For delicate baby wear, hang clothes near a fan or in a well-ventilated room. Never store clothes that smell musty or feel even slightly damp. Add a few neem leaves or cloves in your cupboard as natural antimicrobial agents.
Wash baby clothes separately with hot water when possible, and add a small amount of Dettol or vinegar to the final rinse for extra protection. Sun-dry whenever there's a break in the rains – even 30 minutes of sunlight works wonders. Avoid using fabric softeners during monsoon as they can trap moisture.
If your baby develops a rash, check if recently worn clothes were properly dried. Switch to loose, breathable cotton clothes and keep a separate set of 'monsoon clothes' that dry faster. Remember, investing a little extra time in laundry care now prevents uncomfortable skin problems and doctor visits later!
