Keep Your Baby's Scalp Cool & Clean

Summer sweat can cause scalp rashes & cradle cap flares in young kids.

In peak Indian summer, your little one's scalp sweats just as much as the rest of their body — sometimes more! Sweat trapped under thick hair or caps can lead to prickly heat rashes on the scalp, dandruff-like flaking, or even worsening of cradle cap in babies under 12 months. It's more common than you think, and very manageable.

For babies (0–12 months): Use a mild, tear-free baby shampoo 2–3 times a week. Gently massage the scalp with your fingertips to loosen any dry flakes. Avoid applying coconut or mustard oil heavily in summer — a light application is fine, but too much oil traps heat and attracts dust, worsening the problem.

For toddlers (1–5 years): Wash hair every 2–3 days, especially after outdoor play. Keep hair short or in loose braids to allow air circulation. Avoid tight rubber bands that trap sweat near the scalp. After a bath, dry the scalp gently but thoroughly — a damp scalp in summer heat is a breeding ground for fungal irritation.

Do NOT use adult shampoos, medicated dandruff shampoos, or strong hair oils without your doctor's advice. If you notice red, scaly patches, persistent itching, or hair thinning, consult your pediatrician — it could be tinea capitis (scalp ringworm), which needs proper treatment. A cool, clean scalp means a happier, more comfortable baby this summer! 🌞
