Keep Those Tiny Feet Happy This Monsoon
Wet shoes and damp feet can cause infections - here's how to protect your child
During monsoon, your little one's feet are constantly exposed to puddles, wet floors, and damp shoes - a perfect recipe for fungal infections, maceration, and discomfort. Many parents don't realize that keeping feet dry is just as important as protecting from rain.
Start with the right footwear. Choose open sandals with good grip for toddlers rather than closed shoes that trap moisture. If shoes get wet, stuff them with newspaper and dry them completely before the next use - never put damp shoes back on tiny feet. For babies who aren't walking yet, keep socks dry and change them immediately if they get wet.
Make foot hygiene a daily ritual. Wash your child's feet with warm water and mild soap after coming indoors, paying special attention to spaces between toes where fungus loves to hide. Dry thoroughly with a soft towel - damp skin between toes can lead to athlete's foot even in toddlers. Apply a light dusting of antifungal powder if your child's feet tend to sweat.
Watch for warning signs like redness between toes, peeling skin, or your child scratching their feet frequently. If you notice any rash or persistent itching, consult your pediatrician promptly. A little daily care now prevents bigger problems later, keeping those precious feet ready for jumping in puddles - safely!
