Immunity Power Foods for Your Little One

Strengthen your child's immunity this autumn with these nutritious Indian foods

As October brings pleasant autumn weather, it's also the season when viral infections and seasonal allergies become common. Building your child's immunity naturally through food is one of the best preventive measures you can take.

Start with vitamin C-rich seasonal fruits like amla, sweet lime (mosambi), and papaya. Just one small amla daily provides incredible immune support. For toddlers over 1 year, try amla murabba or mix amla powder in dal. Turmeric milk (haldi doodh) remains a golden remedy—add a pinch of turmeric and jaggery to warm milk before bedtime for children over 1 year.

Include protein-rich foods like moong dal khichdi, which is gentle on tiny tummies yet nutritious. Add ghee generously—it aids nutrient absorption and provides essential fats for brain development. Seasonal vegetables like sweet potato, pumpkin, and carrots are packed with beta-carotene that converts to immunity-boosting vitamin A.

Don't forget the power of traditional ingredients like ajwain, jeera, and hing in your cooking—they aid digestion and keep common infections at bay. For babies starting solids, steamed apple or pear puree is excellent. Avoid excessive sugar and packaged foods as they can suppress immune function. Remember, a well-fed child with adequate sleep and outdoor play has the strongest natural defense against seasonal illnesses.
