Help Your Child Sleep Better in Summer

Beat the heat and help your little one sleep soundly every night.

Hot Indian summers can seriously disrupt your young child's sleep. Babies and toddlers are more sensitive to heat than adults, and poor sleep affects their mood, growth, and immunity. The good news? A few simple changes can make a big difference.

Keep the room cool but not freezing. A fan with good airflow is often enough for babies under 1 year. If using an AC, set it between 24–26°C and avoid pointing it directly at your child. Place a damp cloth near the fan for a gentle cooling effect — a traditional trick that actually works well.

Dress your child in loose, single-layer cotton clothing at bedtime. Avoid synthetic fabrics — they trap heat and cause prickly heat rashes. A thin cotton muslin wrap (swaddle for infants) works beautifully in summer nights.

Give a lukewarm bath 30–45 minutes before bedtime. This lowers body temperature naturally and signals the brain that it's time to sleep. Avoid cold baths right before bed — they can actually disrupt sleep cycles.

Keep bedtime consistent. Summer holidays often throw routines off track, but children aged 0–5 thrive on predictability. A regular sleep time between 8–9 PM helps regulate their internal clock. Dim the lights, reduce screen noise, and do a calming activity like reading or soft singing before bed. Your child will thank you with a peaceful night!
