Getting Back on Track After Diwali Festivities
Simple strategies to restore your toddler's sleep and eating routines post-Diwali
Diwali celebrations are wonderful, but late nights, sweets, and excitement can disrupt your little one's routine. Don't worry—with patience and consistency, you can gently guide them back to normalcy within a week.
Start by gradually adjusting sleep times. If your toddler has been sleeping late, move bedtime earlier by 15-20 minutes each night rather than making drastic changes. Keep the room dark and calm, and resume your usual bedtime rituals like a warm bath or lullaby. Avoid screens at least an hour before sleep.
For meals, reintroduce regular timings and balanced foods. After days of mithai and snacks, their appetite for regular meals may be low. Offer small portions of familiar favorites like khichdi, dal-chawal, or vegetable paratha. Keep plenty of water and fresh fruits available. Don't force food—appetite will naturally return in 2-3 days.
Most importantly, get back to outdoor time and physical activity. Morning sunlight and play help reset their internal clock. Be patient with crankiness or clinginess—it's temporary. Your calm, consistent approach will help them feel secure again.
Remember, festivals are for joy and memories. A few days of routine disruption won't cause lasting harm. Give yourself and your child grace during this transition.
