Fighting Monsoon Colds & Coughs in Little Ones
Simple ways to prevent and manage respiratory infections during monsoon season
September monsoons bring joy, but also a spike in colds, coughs, and respiratory infections in young children. The combination of humidity, sudden temperature changes, and increased indoor time makes little ones more vulnerable.
**Prevention is Key:** Keep your child's hands clean—germs spread easily through touch. Ensure they're dressed in breathable cotton layers that can be adjusted as needed. Avoid sudden temperature shocks like moving directly from AC rooms to humid outdoors. Breastfeeding provides natural immunity for babies, so continue as long as possible.
**Boost Immunity Naturally:** Include immunity-building foods like warm daliya with ghee, moong dal khichdi, homemade vegetable soups, and seasonal fruits like pomegranate. A pinch of turmeric in warm milk (for children above 1 year) can help. Keep your child well-hydrated with warm fluids.
**When to Worry:** Contact your pediatrician if your child has difficulty breathing, refuses to feed, has high fever for more than 3 days, or seems unusually lethargic. For simple colds, steam inhalation (keep baby safe from hot water), saline nasal drops, and plenty of rest work wonders.
Remember, most viral infections resolve on their own in 5-7 days. Your calm presence and comfort are the best medicine for your little one.
