Building a Calming Bedtime Routine
Help your little one sleep better with a soothing evening routine
Does bedtime feel like a battle in your home? You're not alone! Many parents struggle with getting toddlers to sleep, especially during the monsoon when evenings get darker earlier.
A consistent bedtime routine signals your child's brain that it's time to wind down. Start 30-45 minutes before sleep time. Begin with a warm bath—add a few drops of baby-safe lavender oil if your child enjoys it. The slight drop in body temperature after a bath naturally promotes sleepiness.
Follow with quiet activities: read a picture book together, sing a lullaby (try classics like "Chanda Mama Door Ke" or "Nani Teri Morni"), or do gentle massage with coconut or almond oil. Dim the lights and avoid screens completely—the blue light disrupts melatonin production.
Keep the routine the same every night, even on weekends. Your child's body clock will adjust, making falling asleep easier. If your toddler resists, stay calm and consistent. It may take 1-2 weeks to see results.
Do offer a light snack like warm milk with a pinch of nutmeg or a banana if hungry. Don't engage in active play or introduce new toys at bedtime. A predictable, loving routine helps children feel secure and sleep soundly through the night.
