Beating Monsoon Skin Rashes in Little Ones
Humidity and dampness can cause uncomfortable rashes. Here's how to protect.
The monsoon brings relief from summer heat, but the high humidity creates perfect conditions for skin rashes in babies and toddlers. Diaper rash, heat rash (prickly heat), and fungal infections are especially common during these damp months.
Keep your little one's skin as dry as possible. After bath time, gently pat-dry all the skin folds—neck, armpits, thighs, and behind the ears. These areas trap moisture easily. Change diapers more frequently during monsoon, and give some diaper-free time daily to let the skin breathe. Use a mild antifungal powder only if your pediatrician recommends it.
Dress your child in loose, cotton clothing that absorbs sweat. Avoid synthetic fabrics that trap moisture. If you notice red, itchy patches or small bumps, don't apply random creams. A simple home remedy is applying coconut oil after ensuring the area is completely dry, but persistent rashes need a doctor's check.
Bathe your child in lukewarm water with a mild, pH-balanced soap. Avoid over-bathing as it strips natural oils. Keep their play areas clean and dry, and wash bedding and clothes in hot water to prevent fungal growth. Remember, prevention is easier than treatment during monsoon months!
