Beating Diaper Rash This Monsoon Season
High humidity makes diaper rash worse—here's how to keep your baby comfortable
Monsoon brings extra challenges for our little ones, especially when it comes to diaper rash. The high humidity means diapers don't breathe well, and dampness lingers longer on baby's delicate skin—a perfect recipe for redness and irritation.
**Why Monsoon Makes It Worse:** During these humid months, sweat and moisture get trapped against your baby's skin. Combined with urine and stool, this creates an irritating environment that breaks down the skin's protective barrier. You might notice more frequent rashes even with regular diaper changes.
**Your Monsoon Diaper Care Routine:** Change diapers every 2-3 hours, or immediately after a bowel movement. After cleaning with lukewarm water (avoid excessive wiping), pat the area completely dry—this step is crucial in monsoon! Let your baby go diaper-free for 15-20 minutes twice daily, preferably after bath time. Apply a thick zinc oxide-based barrier cream with each change—brands like Sebamed or Himalaya work well for Indian weather.
**When to Worry:** If the rash spreads beyond the diaper area, develops pus-filled bumps, or doesn't improve in 3 days despite good care, consult your pediatrician. It could be a fungal infection (common in humid weather) needing antifungal treatment.
Remember, prevention is easier than cure. A little extra attention during monsoon keeps your baby's bottom happy and healthy!
