Beating Diaper Rash This Monsoon
Why humidity makes diaper rash worse and how to keep your baby comfortable
Monsoon humidity is wonderful for plants, but it can be tough on your baby's delicate bottom! High moisture levels mean diapers take longer to dry completely, creating the perfect environment for diaper rash to develop.
During these humid months, change diapers more frequently—every 2-3 hours, even if they don't seem completely full. Wetness combined with warmth and friction causes irritation. After each change, gently clean with lukewarm water and pat completely dry. Skip wipes occasionally and use soft cotton cloth dipped in water instead.
Give your baby 'diaper-free time' twice daily—let them lie on a waterproof mat for 15-20 minutes. This air exposure works wonders! Apply a zinc oxide-based diaper cream at every change, not just when you see redness. It creates a protective barrier against moisture.
Avoid plastic pants over cloth diapers during monsoon—they trap humidity. If using disposables, choose breathable brands. Watch for signs like persistent redness, bumps, or your baby crying during diaper changes, which may need your pediatrician's attention.
Remember, prevention is easier than treatment. A little extra care during monsoon keeps your baby's smile intact and their bottom happy!
